Detect Potential Scam Texts with Date and Phone Number Input

- HF prevents financial fraud with HF-Claiming Text Verification Service

Korea Housing Finance Corporation (HF, CEO Choi Joon-Woo) announced on October 26, 2023, that it has launched “HF-Claiming Text Verification Service” in an effort to combat financial fraud involving smishing* and other text messages (such as SMS and alert talk).

 * This deceptive scheme can result in unauthorized micropayments and the theft of personal financial information, among other harms. This occurs when people click on a web address (URL) of dubious origin found in an incoming text (SMS, etc.) on their mobile phones.

Customers can verify the authenticity of messages claiming to be from HF by entering the contact number and date of receipt on the HF website (www.hf.go.kr) or through the Smart Housing Finance app*. This verification process is designed to be secure, without requiring any personal information such as resident registration number or account number.

 * Verification available for messages received within the past one month to improve the effectiveness of fraud prevention

An HF official emphasized, “HF does not use text messages for financial product solicitations. Therefore, it is critical to exercise caution if you receive a text falsely claiming to offer financial products in the name of HF. We remain committed to fostering a secure financial service environment.” 

HF is actively working to mitigate financial fraud by distributing informational leaflets at each branch on how to prevent and respond to voice phishing.
