HF Takes the Lead in Improving the Water Quality of Urban Rivers

- HF carries out “EM Clay Ball Tossing” with Children in Busan

Korea Housing Finance Corporation (HF, CEO Choi Joon-Woo) announced on May 24, 2023, that it carried out an "EM Clay Ball* Tossing” environmental cleanup event in the Hoedongcheon River area of Busan with kids from a local children's center to improve the quality of river water <see image below>.

 * The balls are a mixture of EM (Effective Microorganisms) solution and yellow mud. When tossed into a river, they work to improve water quality and restore the ecological surroundings.

A group of 40 individuals took part in this effort to enhance local river water quality and mitigate odor, including 20 HF employees and 20 children from the nearby children's center. Together, they made and tossed 500 EM clay balls into the Hoedongcheon River*.

Prior to the event, HF organized an ‘EM Clay Ball Making' session at the Geumsananeoul Community Children's Center in Busan on the 10th. During this session, HF employees teamed up with children from the local center to mix EM solution and yellow mud into EM clay balls. The HF employees also provided environmental education on two subjects: ▲ the climate crisis and the significance of the environment and ▲ the role of rivers and the effects of EM clay balls.

An HF officer said, "It was really meaningful to join hands with the younger generation in cleaning up the nearby river and helping them understand how vital the environment is. We're committed to carrying on with our efforts to contribute to the local community.”

Meanwhile, HF has planned to arrange four local river cleanup events, partnering employees and local kids, with two in the first half of the year and two more in the second half.
